Jose’s Coaching Bio
A UEFA Pro License holder through the Spanish Football Federation and graduate in Sports Science from the University of A Coruña, Jose Barcala has been working as a youth development coach for close to twenty years.
In 2007, he joined La Liga side Deportivo La Coruña initially as an U18 Coach, and continued to work throughout the various age groups of Academy of Deportivo La Coruña for the next five years in a variety of coaching roles. In 2012, Jose Barcala joined the National Futsal Team of Libya and worked with Pablo Prieto in the preparation of the side for the World Cup held in Thailand. Jose Barcala returned to Deportivo La Coruña for the start of 2014 as Head of Coaching. During his time in this role he was responsible for the development of “The Depor Method” coaching methodology and oversaw the program of the club for three seasons.
Jose Barcala joined Brisbane Roar in October 2017 as Academy Head Coach and is responsible for overseeing the progression of the players in the U15 Academy Team. His experience of the highest levels of player development in Spain’s La Liga will be of enormous benefit to the Roar, our Academy Partner Clubs and Football in Queensland.
